The Only Way Is… Jose?

Another weekend gone, another loss for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. Eleven games in to the season and the blues are currently holding the unfortunate record of the worst Premier League title defense since the league started under its current guise over 20 years ago. While even at this point you can’t see it happening, rumblings of “has anyone ever won the title and been relegated the next season?” have been brewing. Well, there is an answer: It’s only ever happened once, when Manchester City won their first ever league title in... Read More

Pleasure & Pain – The Battle of Northampton Town

Rare that you can ever say this about a team fighting for promotion, but it’s tough times for Northampton Town. They’re currently 4th in League Two, with only goal difference preventing them from sitting in 3rd – and thus, an automatic promotion spot, currently held by Oxford United. Having won 6 of their last 10 games with 2 draws, it’s a great run for a team that in recent years has been middle of the road, fighting relegation and fighting for promotion. So how on earth can there be an... Read More

The Revolving Door – What’s Up With Leeds United?

It’s expected that by 2017 you won’t be able to be any more than 400 metres away from a former Leeds United manager. Jokes aside… what is going on!?! Since the speculation began of Massimo Cellino taking ownership of the club in January 2014 (and eventual ownership after his successful appeal against a block in April), the club has had 6 managerial changes – six in the past year and a half (five if you discount Neil Redfearn’s caretaker stint). Prior to Cellino’s takeover, the previous five non-caretaker changes in... Read More

50 and OUT!

The future of the current England manager Roy Hodgson lies in his own hands. Recent major tournaments England have comfortably qualified for the tournament without alarm, but we find ourselves in the same position again not knowing our best team? The average Premier League player can look good against the likes of San Marino and Lithuania; it’s the big games in major tournaments that separate the very best. Roy Hodgson has come to his biggest decision whether to stick or twist? STICK with what he knows? A team that is... Read More

Einz, Zwei, Drei, Vier… Funf! In neun minuten!

If anyone can top this for a single performance in one half of a game, we’re pretty certain no one would believe them. In the German Bundesliga last night, Champions Bayern Munich took on last season’s runners-up VfL Wolfsburg in a top class match. After half time, it was Wolfsburg who held a 1-0 lead thanks to a Caligiuri goal on the 26th minute. So, Pep Guardiola needed a shake-up for the second half. He brings on the Polish international Robert Lewandowski. Little did anyone know just 15 minutes later,... Read More

Flourishing Foxes – Leicester’s Impressive Run

Before the beginning of the season, you probably didn’t expect the top royal blue team to be Leicester after 5 games, did you? It’s only a mere few months ago where, with 9 games to go, Leicester were bottom of the Premier League having won just 4 games all season. Then, on April 4th, the fifth win of the season came for the Foxes after beating West Ham 2-1. Following on were victories against West Brom and Swansea City which finally lifted Leicester from the bottom and up to 18th,... Read More

The Giants of English Football Square Off

This Saturday, England’s two most successful clubs square off in the Premier League – Manchester United and Liverpool. Manchester United have won the title in the top tier of the English League 20 times, more than any other club – and was a record previously held by their rivals Liverpool, who have 18 league titles. Despite still being 2nd on the list, Liverpool haven’t won the title since the 1989-90 season (and thus, haven’t yet won a “Premier League” title as the top tier was named after the club’s most...
