Einz, Zwei, Drei, Vier… Funf! In neun minuten!
If anyone can top this for a single performance in one half of a game, we’re pretty certain no one would believe them.
In the German Bundesliga last night, Champions Bayern Munich took on last season’s runners-up VfL Wolfsburg in a top class match. After half time, it was Wolfsburg who held a 1-0 lead thanks to a Caligiuri goal on the 26th minute.
So, Pep Guardiola needed a shake-up for the second half. He brings on the Polish international Robert Lewandowski. Little did anyone know just 15 minutes later, his name would be spoken around the world.
Six minutes in, and Lewandowski levels the game for Bayern. One minute later, he puts them ahead. Just two minutes later, and he’s scored a hat-trick in just 3 minutes, 22 seconds.
But was that the end of it? Oh, no.
Almost similar in terms of dismantling like Germany did to Brazil in last year’s World Cup, Lewandowski would add a fourth AND fifth goal a further 2 and five minutes later.
From 1-0 down in the 51st minute, Lewandowski on his own put his team 5-1 up by the 60th. Five goals in nine minutes.
It was an annihilation on a level of Manchester United’s 8-2 win over Arsenal, or the previously mentioned 7-1 win for Germany over Brazil – what should’ve been a closely fought battle between two equally matched teams became anything but. Plus, it was done in one of the most shocking ways. One player, over and over, unstoppable.
In that period of nine minutes, Lewandowski managed to score more goals than Liverpool, Newcastle and West Brom have managed to so far this season, more than Wayne Rooney in the whole of 2015, more than anyone in the bottom half of La Liga and even more than Nicklas Bendtner has in over three years!
As a result of the game, it ended Wolfsburg’s attempt to equal their record of 15 games unbeaten, as well as heading towards their first win at Bayern in 22 attempts.
Again, we say: if anyone says they can beat this, we’re presuming they’re not quite telling the truth.
If you missed them, you’ve got to see this video. THE FIFTH GOAL. Seriously. Robert Lewandowski, take a bow!
