The Old Guards Gunning For The Top Once Again

This topsy-turvy season has seen Leicester City sitting at the top of the Premiership (and still are there now), having been dead last for a considerable length last year; Tottenham Hotspur put in possibly their best ever season in the Premier League to date… but right behind them sits an old guard. A team that knows how to do it, on more than one occasion, and wants to spoil both fairytale stories of those ahead. Except they too have an urge to get the job done. Arsenal, three-time Premier League winners (along with... Read More

The Day Belief Grew Stronger: The Impossible Dream… Possible?

It’s a subject we’ve covered twice this season, but both times in the early days – Leicester City. After a month, we thought it was amusing they were in the top 5 having spent a heavy part of last season at the bottom of the Premier League table. Then, we briefly discussed if the impossible dream could happen, but we still didn’t think it would happen. But now, with 13 games to go, they’re not just “still there”. The Foxes sit top of the table. Five points clear (from Tottenham... Read More

Guardiola: The Hottest Free Agent Is Snapped Up…

It was a battle that top teams wanted: Chelsea were looking for a new permanent manager after firing Jose Mourinho back in December, and questions still linger over Manchester United‘s current manager Louis Van Gaal. In the end, they lost out to Manchester City, who announced that current Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola will be joining the Sky Blues for the 2016/17 season – outing current manager Manuel Pellegrini, whose contract runs out at the end of this season. As a player, Guardiola was a defensive midfielder who played 378 league games for a number of teams, but... Read More

Kieron Dyer Finishes 4th in I’m A Celebrity 2015

From a quiet, modest member of the jungle to one of the leading banter makers – Kieron Dyer suddenly came to life in the second half of his time in Australia, just missing out on a place in the final of ITV’s “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” this past weekend. He was part of a double elimination this past Saturday alongside Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter, who finished 5th. Left in the camp for the final day was 3rd placed Ferne McCann, runner up George Shelley and Queen... Read More

The Calm Before The Storm: FA Cup, Round 2…

The big boys are looming… time for the teams still in the FA Cup to fight for a win more than ever, because the all-important third round is next. For the smaller teams, a win means an opportunity to possibly be drawn against the big English teams, which would give a massive financial boost – where else would you see the likes of Manchester United possibly playing Stourbridge, for example? At this point, the most high-profile teams in the competition are from Leagues One and Two (who joined the competition... Read More

Record-Breaking Game? Premier League’s Top Two Clash!

When you read this, you didn’t expect us to say the Premier League leaders are Leicester, did you? We had an earlier blog talking about Leicester’s impressive run – but now nearly a third of the way through the season, the Foxes are still up there – in fact, above anyone else! They’ve only lost 2 of their last 22 league games (since April of last season), to Chelsea and Arsenal – consistency which sees them quite deservedly up there. Fittingly enough (for reasons we’ll explain shortly), they take on... Read More

Kieron Dyer Enters the Jungle for I’m A Celebrity 2015!

Former Newcastle United and England midfielder Kieron Dyer is joining 9 other celebrities down under for this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! on ITV, starting Sunday. Dyer made 33 appearances for England between 1999 and 2007, and had his longest club spell at Newcastle United in the same period. He last played for Middlesbrough in 2013, before hanging up his boots. The 36 year-old is one of two sports personalities entering the jungle from the get-go, alongside boxer Chris Eubank. They’re joined by musicians Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet) and George Shelley (Union... Read More

Pleasure & Pain – The Battle of Northampton Town

Rare that you can ever say this about a team fighting for promotion, but it’s tough times for Northampton Town. They’re currently 4th in League Two, with only goal difference preventing them from sitting in 3rd – and thus, an automatic promotion spot, currently held by Oxford United. Having won 6 of their last 10 games with 2 draws, it’s a great run for a team that in recent years has been middle of the road, fighting relegation and fighting for promotion. So how on earth can there be an... Read More

The Revolving Door – What’s Up With Leeds United?

It’s expected that by 2017 you won’t be able to be any more than 400 metres away from a former Leeds United manager. Jokes aside… what is going on!?! Since the speculation began of Massimo Cellino taking ownership of the club in January 2014 (and eventual ownership after his successful appeal against a block in April), the club has had 6 managerial changes – six in the past year and a half (five if you discount Neil Redfearn’s caretaker stint). Prior to Cellino’s takeover, the previous five non-caretaker changes in... Read More

The Giants of English Football Square Off

This Saturday, England’s two most successful clubs square off in the Premier League – Manchester United and Liverpool. Manchester United have won the title in the top tier of the English League 20 times, more than any other club – and was a record previously held by their rivals Liverpool, who have 18 league titles. Despite still being 2nd on the list, Liverpool haven’t won the title since the 1989-90 season (and thus, haven’t yet won a “Premier League” title as the top tier was named after the club’s most...
