Manchester’s Second Treble…

…Except, this time it’s for the noisy neighbours! Manchester City aren’t shy of success, especially in recent years. This isn’t even the first treble for the club – City achieved the domestic treble in 2019 (EFL Cup/FA Cup/Premier League), the continental treble was eluding them for as good as Man City were, they just couldn’t quite crack the Champions League. That was, until this year. Finally adding the Champions League to their collection – along with the Premier League and FA Cup for this season – they became only the... Read More

Championship Playoff: A Long Awaited Return

Who doesn’t love a football fairytale? We now know that over the Bank Holiday Weekend it’ll be between Coventry City and Luton Town for the final spot in the Premier League next season. But what makes this match so special? Both teams’ stories. While neither team are strangers to the top division of football, it’s been a long time since either have been in the most elite league in England. For Coventry City, their 34-year run in the top division was ended in the 2000-01 Premier League season. The team’s... Read More

Wenger Leaves Arsenal

The last of a generation? Quite possibly. Arsene Wenger announced this morning he is to leave Arsenal, having been the manager of the club since October of 1996 – which made him the longest serving Premier League manager of all time (Sir Alex Ferguson, while having been manager of Manchester United for longer, pre-dated the Premier League era). While recent times have been more of a struggle for Arsenal – which included a eight-year drought without a trophy and the “St. Totteringham’s Day” streak coming to an end last season... Read More

All Together for a Sing-A-Long…

You’ll Never Walk Alone. I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles. Blue Moon… I could go on and on and on. Point is, it’s not a football match without the crowd making noise, and chants are an essential part of the atmosphere. Sometimes they can be for the love of a team (see Port Vale), the joy of a particular player (Wigan & Ireland, West Ham, Arsenal, AFC Wimbledon… the list could go on!), or even as abuse to the opposition or the greatest rival (see Burnley) – can you really say you’ve... 2016 Play-Off Finals – The Last Chance At Promotion

So this year’s season is wrapping up shortly – Leicester made the fairytale come true to win the Premier League, Burnley went straight back up with Middlesbrough returning after 7 years away, Wigan get back on the right path and head back to the Championship having only been in the top tier as recently as 2013 whereas Burton continue to surprise with automatic promotion in their first ever year in the third tier, and in League Two Northampton Town put financial worries aside to demolish the division, with Oxford United... The Old Guards Gunning For The Top Once Again

This topsy-turvy season has seen Leicester City sitting at the top of the Premiership (and still are there now), having been dead last for a considerable length last year; Tottenham Hotspur put in possibly their best ever season in the Premier League to date… but right behind them sits an old guard. A team that knows how to do it, on more than one occasion, and wants to spoil both fairytale stories of those ahead. Except they too have an urge to get the job done. Arsenal, three-time Premier League winners (along with... Read More

Record-Breaking Game? Premier League’s Top Two Clash!

When you read this, you didn’t expect us to say the Premier League leaders are Leicester, did you? We had an earlier blog talking about Leicester’s impressive run – but now nearly a third of the way through the season, the Foxes are still up there – in fact, above anyone else! They’ve only lost 2 of their last 22 league games (since April of last season), to Chelsea and Arsenal – consistency which sees them quite deservedly up there. Fittingly enough (for reasons we’ll explain shortly), they take on... Read More

Flourishing Foxes – Leicester’s Impressive Run

Before the beginning of the season, you probably didn’t expect the top royal blue team to be Leicester after 5 games, did you? It’s only a mere few months ago where, with 9 games to go, Leicester were bottom of the Premier League having won just 4 games all season. Then, on April 4th, the fifth win of the season came for the Foxes after beating West Ham 2-1. Following on were victories against West Brom and Swansea City which finally lifted Leicester from the bottom and up to 18th,... Read More

FA Cup Final: All in the A’s

So when it came down to it all… all we had to do to get our FA Cup final was pick the first two teams alphabetically in the Premier League. The final, taking place this weekend pits Aston Villa – who managed to hang on to their Premier League status this season – against 3rd placed (and current FA Cup holders) Arsenal. It seems inevitable as to who should win this one, but as we’ve seen even just 2 years ago with Wigan and Manchester City, it can be anything... Read More
