All Together for a Sing-A-Long…
You’ll Never Walk Alone. I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles. Blue Moon… I could go on and on and on. Point is, it’s not a football match without the crowd making noise, and chants are an essential part of the atmosphere.
Sometimes they can be for the love of a team (see Port Vale), the joy of a particular player (Wigan & Ireland, West Ham, Arsenal, AFC Wimbledon… the list could go on!), or even as abuse to the opposition or the greatest rival (see Burnley) – can you really say you’ve had a good time if you’ve not lost your voice after 90 minutes?
Chant designs have been available for a while now on our website (Jamie Vardy was having a party ages ago, and West Ham fans are still gleeful of having Dimitri Payet) – but now we’ve got all the major leagues covered: Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two designs are all available, so no matter what your team – get down to your ground with the perfect song on the perfect t-shirt, hoodie or sweatshirt!
We know some of the biggest designs in store, but what about some of the classic gems that you might not have seen yet?
Northampton Town: I’m Proud To Be
It’s safe to say Northampton Town’s last 12 months have been one mega rollercoaster ride of emotion. It was only a year ago we were wondering if another of Northamptonshire’s footballing clubs would fold under massive financial issues and questioning what exactly the previous chairman was doing.
One year later, they moved up from League Two having won the league by 13 points, to League One where they’re holding their own very well, sitting in the top half of the table.
It’s a proud time to be a Cobblers fan – which can be proved with this design!
Still the top Premier League goalscorer in history, Alan Shearer will be an icon for Newcastle forever. The local lad joined his team in 1996 following a title-winning time at Blackburn Rovers to go and become an absolute goal machine up until his retirement in 2006. He wasn’t quite done with the team though – he returned for a brief stint in 2009 as a manager for the team’s final eight games of the season in a bid to save the club from relegation, something he was unable to do.
Despite that, and the fact it’s been 10 years since his retirement, Newcastle fans will always ring out the “Shearer!” chant wherever necessary!
Colchester United: Up The U’s!
Here’s a rare one: a unique song for just one team! “Up The U’s” is Colchester United’s song, recorded and performed so far only by Colchester-based bands, to boot! Originally performed in 2000 by Special Duties, the song was released that year as a B-Side to “Wembley! Wembley! (Wembley Here We Come)” and again in 2006 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Currently, the version that plays at home games is by a local indie band called Absent Kid – this design surely leaves Colchester fans saying “Who needs You’ll Never Walk Alone when you’ve got Up The U’s?”.
We’re not finished here, either – we may have covered the top 4 English leagues but keep an eye out as chant designs for Scottish teams will be arriving in the near future! For now, you can find all our current chant designs here!
