Quick Start: New Premier League Record Set Last Night
Make sure you’re ready for the game ahead of kick-off, because you never know what you might miss…
Last night saw a new Premier League record set, when two different games saw a goal scored within the first 20 seconds on the same day!
It’s safe to say Luton Town and Sheffield United haven’t had the easiest of starts to the Premier League season since being promoted; however they definitely started in style during last night’s games against Brighton and Crystal Palace respectively!
Sheffield United didn’t even allow Crystal Palace a touch of the ball before Ben Brereton Diaz found the back of the net in just 20 seconds; whereas Luton – who didn’t even kick off their game – scored after just 18 seconds with Elijah Adebayo!
That’s where fortunes start to contrast. For bottom of the table Sheffield United, who took the lead twice in the game but ultimately lost 3-2 leaving them 9 points from safety. Luton on the other hand continued surprising in their game by scoring a second within three minutes – becoming the second fastest 2 goal advantage lead in Premier League history (only behind Leicester City vs. Derby County from 1998, where City scored 4 in just the first 15 minutes). Luton eventually finished the game as 4-0 winners against Brighton, and climbed out of the relegation zone.
Just goes to show, you should never miss a second of the action!
