Ipswich Town: Back In The Premier League

While there may be an important international tournament going on right now, we can’t overlook some of the more incredible stories from the League in the meantime…

Back in May, Ipswich Town secured a triumphant return to the Premier League after a remarkable 22-year absence. For more than two decades, the club has navigated the tumultuous waters of the lower leagues, facing countless challenges and setbacks. But through it all, the spirit of the club and its supporters remained unbroken.

The first significant step in Ipswich Town’s resurgence came with their promotion from League One. Having dropped down to the third division after a 63-year period in the two divisions above in 2019, it wouldn’t be until 2023 that Ipswich secured their return to the Championship under manager Kieran McKenna.

The 2023-24 season in the Championship was a rollercoaster for Ipswich Town. It started off very well, with the newly promoted side keeping up with recently relegated and former Premier League Champions Leicester City. However, around the midway point Leicester would build up a massive lead, whereas Ipswich would start to come under pressure from teams like Leeds and Southampton for the final automatic spot.

Ultimately, Ipswich would mount a late comeback to eventually deny Leeds the final automatic spot – finishing in second place and securing back-to-back promotions, and a long awaited return to the top flight of English football.

With their return to the Premier League, Ipswich Town now face the challenge of competing against some of the best teams in the world. While few will predict the same results from the last time Ipswich were promoted to the Premiership (they finished an incredible 5th in the 2000-01 season, in which they were pipped to 4th place by Liverpool on the last day), Ipswich will definitely be looking to ensure a firm grasp on their place in the league, much like Nottingham Forest have managed to achieve over the last two seasons.

To commemorate this incredible achievement, fans can now celebrate Ipswich Town’s return to the Premier League with exclusive t-shirts, hoodies, and sweatshirts from PunkFootball. These items are perfect for showing your support and pride for the club!
