Goals Galore: Mansfield vs. Harrogate

It’s not often you can talk about an eleven-goal thriller in football, but that’s exactly what happened in League Two this past Tuesday.

In a quite simply absurd match, Mansfield somehow managed to take a incredible 9-2 victory over Harrogate – but look in to the story further and it becomes even more incredible.

Yes, Mansfield are in the chase for the League Two title – with them winning and leaders Stockport losing, the gap at the top closed to just one point. Harrogate, however, are most certainly not in relegation form which you may consider being a reason for the scoreline. No, Harrogate are very much in contention for a playoff position – Tuesday’s result meant they dropped out of the playoffs but only on goal difference.

Indeed, Harrogate had actually been on a very good run prior to Tuesday’s game, having won four of their last six games, and drawn the other two. However on the night, Mansfield were just significantly better.

Mansfield managed to already lead 5-0 before half time, and just a few minutes after the start of the second half scored a 6th.

Harrogate then did manage to get one for themselves, which may have been considered a consolation, until they then scored a second goal the very next minute to make it 6-2. Given 55 minutes had been played and 8 goals had already been scored, you wouldn’t have been hard pressed to wonder if somehow Harrogate could find a way out given how bonkers the game was.

Alas, it wasn’t meant to be, and Mansfield found three more to tie their biggest league win, which was done in… 1932!

Will this be enough to see Mansfield take the League Two title by the end of the season? Will Harrogate bounce back and get themselves in to the playoff positions again? Time will only tell, but either way – make sure you’re supporting your team with our exclusive ranges!
