Champions League: Man City & Arsenal Back In Action

It’s time for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Last 16 First Legs start tomorrow, with defending champions Manchester City taking on FC Copenhagen while the only other English club left in the tournament, Arsenal, are away to FC Porto on Wednesday evening.

Both clubs topped their groups earlier in the tournament, with Man City proving very consistent – not only winning all six games, but scoring three goals in all of them to boot. Arsenal did pick up a draw and a loss in their group but it wasn’t enough to stop them from taking first place.

Copenhagen found themselves a very distant second place in their group, taking just 8 points from their 6 games (just half of Bayern Munich who topped their group), so taking on the defending champions is probably the last thing they would’ve wanted in the knockout stages.

Porto by comparison finished their group tied on points with Barcelona, but falling behind them as Barcelona had the better head-to-head score. If Arsenal want to make the Quarter Finals for the first time since 2010, they may have a tough time of it – but they’ve kept themselves in the title fight in the Premier League with very impressive performances recently, which will give them no end of confidence for this tie.
